TRANSCRIPT:
Greetings…when working with school teachers and athletic coaches we have found that Action Research has shown to be the most efficient, contextual and practical method of encouraging them to examine their teaching practices.
To that end, we have engaged in a process of Action Research that is built upon a Self Determination Theory foundation. Self Determination Theory is intended to improve engagement and learning by providing opportunities for autonomy, competence and relatedness. Last year we determined that teachers and athletic coaches found Action Research (especially with an SDT foundation), to be reasonable and effective. Leaders were positive about improvements in their teaching as well as learner achievement.
This year, we focused on learner outcomes and found that learners improved in on-task behaviors, skill development and self-directed behaviors.
Data was collected through a variety of means including; focused observations, interviews, reflective logs, learning outcomes and surveys.
Once again, Action Research conducted upon an SDT foundation has proven to be a viable and constructive means of improving teaching and learning in a variety of contexts.
